Yamaha sound problem

Hi

I'm having some trouble getting sound working on a
Yamaha YMF-724F card. I'm getting no sound, even
though alsaconf detects the card and loads the
modules. I'm running debian etch (alsa 1.0.13, but
I've also tried 1.0.14rc4 with no luck).

I ran alsaconf which detected my Yamaha
Corporation YMF-724F [DS-1 Audio Controller] (rev 03)
which is correct. But once alsconf is done it returns:

amixer: Mixer attach default error: No such device
Saving the mixer setup used for this in
/var/lib/alsa/asound.state.
/usr/sbin/alsactl: save_state:1254: No soundcards
found...

On boot I get dmesg|tail:

AC'97 0 access error (not audio or modem codec)
ACPI: PCI interrupt for device 0000:00:0d.0 disabled
Yamaha DS-1 PCI: probe of 0000:00:0d.0 failed with

I'm stuck, this card works fine withe damn small linux
2.3, which uses oss. I've had a very similar (possibly
identical) card work with alsa on an other machine,
but for some reason I can't get it to work on this
machine.

Any help would be appreciated, I've been mucking
around trying to get this working for a while now.

Thanks
Liam
