Capture alsa output

Hi all,

I want to capture all ALSA audio output, without capturing the input
devices. I want the exact digital audio as I hear it from my speakers.
This seems a fairly simple request to me, but I can't find a clear
explanation on how to achieve it.

My end goal is streaming all audio from one PC to another (using icecast
and ices), without requiring special options in any software that
produces sound.

I found a thread from earlier this month about this:
http://www.mail-archive.com/alsa-user@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/msg19585.html
This didn't provide a clear answer though.

I also found this suggestion:
http://everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=1310145
To create a pcm "copy" device. No luck with this either. When I run
"arecord -t wav -D copy target.wav" I get a capture of the mic signal.

How can I achieve this?

Cheers,
Aron
