Hi Lee,

Thanks for the tip ... but I'm unhappy to report that
after going through all the options for ALC883 in
snd-hda-intel listed in 
/usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/ALSA-Configuration.txt.gz

the volume level is still very very low...

I did notice that I get the following line in
/var/log/syslog when the module's inserted:

Apr 11 09:24:14 cowgal kernel: hda_codec: Unknown
model for ALC883, trying auto-probe from BIOS...


Is this worthy of a bug report to the devel list????
