Hello all, A Compaq Presario M2105 laptop with a "Multimedia audio controller: Cirrus Logic CS 4610/11 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator] (rev 01)". This laptop has developed a problem (hardware) in which it pops. It goes on and on popping and distorting sound. If you hold it just right the popping will stop and it will sound right. However you don`t always want to try and hold it perfectly so you turn off the sound, the master does nothing to affect the popping and the only thing to do anything is the external amp, if I turn this off in alsamixer the popping stops. This is just what I want! However on a fresh restart sound works alsa comes back up but I can turn off and on the external amp all I want and nothing changes the popping keeps right on popping. If I do alsaconfig and reconfigure the card then reopen alsamixer and turn off the external amp the popping stops and everything works until the next reboot.... As this is a laptop reboots are not once in a lifetime thing.... Any idea`s on what is making the alsa driver stop working after a reboot would be very welcome! This laptop belongs to a Windows user I am trying to get into Linux however in Windows a simple press of the audio mute button stops the popping. This does not show very well for turning off the popping in Linux. Anyway I would welcome any help or suggestions, Thanks, Gokee2 P.S. I asked in #alsa on freenode but no one is answering, if this email sounds funny in places its because it was first written for irc. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
