I am having problems using ALSA on my Ubuntu Laptop. My specs are:
Make: Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Li 1705
Sound card: Onboard on Via 8237A
OS: Ubuntu 6.10
Kernel version: 2.6.17-11-generic (latest)
Alsa-driver: alsa-driver-1.0.14rc3.tar.bz2 (latest)
Alsa-lib: alsa-lib-1.0.14rc3.tar.bz2 (latest)
Alsa-Utils: alsa-utils-1.0.14rc2.tar.bz2 (latest)
The alsa website says that the 8237A chipset is supported. I get sound from my internal speakers but no sound when I plug an external speaker or headphone to the headphone jack on my laptop.
This is supposedly a known issue in Ubuntu with other sound cards and people work around by disabling their 'External Amplifier' tracks in alsamixer/ gnome-volume control. But I cannot see this track in my alsamixer/alsamixergui/gnome-volume-control. I have made sure that it is not hidden. There is also NO headphone track available.
Any suggestions or workarounds?
Thanks
Sid
