   Rebuilt the 2.6.19.2 kernel with module unload capability installed.

amixer:

   So, the intel8x0 module is loaded, alsaconf finds and supposedly
configures that driver, but the card is now not found in /proc/asound/cards.
And, there's only card0 in that directory.

   Neither aumix nor alsamixer yet works.

   How strange!
