Looks interesting. Did you try it with a webcam and a headset? Does it ignore 
the webcam if it only has a mic? Has it a fallback strategy (e.g. select 
headset as default sound output device and then restart without the headset)?

If all this works correctly this tool could act as a kind of 
wrapper/workaround as long as the desktop environment doesn't handle this 
correctly itself...
