Bill, seems I can control both an external analog input AND my aplay filename.wav output by a tool called "gamix" -- and it sounds good. So I suspect as you do that my Jack is Jacked up. I'll post in a jack forum if I can't figure it out. Anything going through Jack is garbled/distorted and thru Alsa not -- so I guess this a Jack attack! Dave suggested I may want to upgrade alsa in the kernel and I am not ruling this out.. but I do think I need to investigate Jack further. Thanks alot, Ronan On 1/17/07, Bill Unruh <unruh@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: > On Wed, 17 Jan 2007, ronan mcallister wrote: > > > Hi, I have Suse 10.1 with recent updates -- my YaST HW info shows I > > have the ALSA 1.0.13 (stable) release, and I am having problems with > > this sound card -- when playing back WAV files through ALSAplayer > > (after starting Jack with "jackd -R -dalsa -r44100 -p1024" I get very > > garbled (and loud) audio. > > First find out where the problem is.
