Hello, I'm setting a Fedora Core 6 server up to record an audio input, and I'm having a problem where the arecord program hangs randomly, rather than running to the specified (-d flag) duration. Hanging can occur at any point, but rarely can I make it to 120 seconds before the program hangs. It does not exit, and no error is given. The machine is a 200 MHz Pentium MMX with CS-4236 audio device, and this (audio recording) is the only active task on the machine. I have not tried a different audio interface. I've tried with/without lame encoding, but the result is the same. The hang problem occasionally happens just at the start of recording (only a few bytes captured), but is usually just somewhere randomly within the first minute or two of recording. My command line (issued as root) is very simple: #arecord -d 120 -r 16000 >audio.wav or #arecord -d 120 -r 16000 | lame - >audio.mp3 The hanging problem doesn't seem to be sensitive to the audio level being recorded. I tried 32000 and 8000 bps recording rates with the sample result. The recorded audio quality is as expected. In amixer, Capture is enabled for 'Master Digital' and 'Line' devices only; and the level of 'Master Digital' is 100%/100%, while 'Line' is 95%/95%. How do I troubleshoot this? Thanks, Dave _________________________________________________________________ >From photos to predictions, The MSN Entertainment Guide to Golden Globes has it all. http://tv.msn.com/tv/globes2007/?icid=nctagline1 ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys.
