I bought it because I read the |> Alsa Soundcard Matrix as saying that it was supported. Red-faced with embarrassment, I report that the UA-1EX has a switch on the front labelled `Advanced Driver On/Off'. It arrived from the manufacturer with this switch set to `On'. This mode requires a dedicated audio-driver written especially for the device (Windows and OSX versions available on the CD). When this switch was set to off, the thing was correctly identified as an audio device and the snd_usb_audio module correctly loaded. /proc/bus/usb/devices: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- T: Bus=02 Lev=01 Prnt=01 Port=00 Cnt=01 Dev#= 2 Spd=12 MxCh= 0 D: Ver= 1.10 Cls=00(>ifc ) Sub=00 Prot=00 MxPS= 8 #Cfgs= 1 P: Vendor=0582 ProdID=0097 Rev= 1.00 S: Manufacturer=EDIROL S: Product=UA-1EX C:* #Ifs= 3 Cfg#= 1 Atr=80 MxPwr=200mA I: If#= 0 Alt= 0 #EPs= 0 Cls=01(audio) Sub=01 Prot=00 Driver=snd-usb-audio I: If#= 1 Alt= 0 #EPs= 0 Cls=01(audio) Sub=02 Prot=00 Driver=snd-usb-audio I: If#= 1 Alt= 1 #EPs= 1 Cls=01(audio) Sub=02 Prot=00 Driver=snd-usb-audio E: Ad=01(O) Atr=09(Isoc) MxPS= 192 Ivl=1ms I: If#= 2 Alt= 0 #EPs= 0 Cls=01(audio) Sub=02 Prot=00 Driver=snd-usb-audio I: If#= 2 Alt= 1 #EPs= 1 Cls=01(audio) Sub=02 Prot=00 Driver=snd-usb-audio E: Ad=82(I) Atr=05(Isoc) MxPS= 192 Ivl=1ms ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Playback works fine (haven't tried recording yet). The only current weirdness is that calling alsamixer gives: no mixer elems found However, I know that some usb-audio devices do not have internal mixer controls. Perhaps this is one of them? Very sorry for the braino, but perhaps this report will help some others. Jim ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Take Surveys. Earn Cash.
