I have a PCM slider on my hda_intel care (Mac Mini) which does nothing useful. It appears to be only for decorative purposes. Sound volume is adjusted with the "Front", "Center", "Surround", "LFE", etc sliders, which all appear to work fine.

On my machine, the "Center" slider appears to be connected to the internal PC speaker, and the "Front" slider to the stero analog line/HP output.
