system crash by MPU-401 after a short while of using it

Hi,
I use opensuse 10.0 with kernel:
# uname -a
Linux linux 2.6.15-jad2-default #1 PREEMPT Sat Dec 24 00:00:07 CET 2005 i686
i686 i386 GNU/Linux

with alsa version 1.0.13 packaged by Packman

I have two soundcards with midi ports:

# aconnect -li
client 0: 'System' [type=kernel]
    0 'Timer '
    1 'Announce '
client 14: 'Midi Through' [type=kernel]
    0 'Midi Through Port-0'
client 16: 'TerraTec EWX24/96 MIDI' [type=kernel]
    0 'TerraTec EWX24/96 MIDI'
client 20: 'MPU-401 UART MIDI' [type=kernel]
    0 'MPU-401 UART MIDI'

When I connect MPU-401 to EXW24/96 and play for a little while the system
hangs with the following /var/log/message:

Dec 21 14:59:42 linux kernel: ALSA sound/drivers/mpu401/mpu401_uart.c:222:
cmd: 0x3f failed at 0x330 (status = 0x80, data = 0x40)

It seems, that if I don't use this midi port, everything works fine.

My configuration of the alsa module looks like this:
linux:/etc/modprobe.d # cat sound
options snd-ice1712 enable=1 index=0
# FTXf.J4wu6rKmng4:EWX 24/96
alias snd-card-0 snd-ice1712
alias snd-card-1 snd-mpu401
linux:/etc/modprobe.d #

can you help me?

thanks in advance
Piotr
