I didn't mean the ALSA plugins were needed to run the cards.

I meant that I tried to install the plugins, and that, IIRC, pulse-audio
was missing, and I found it in Mandriva-cooker repositories, but not
in the official distro repositories.

But, if one had that missing pulse-audio installed from earlier
version, he/she wouldn't notice it was missing - my install was a clean
one.

And there were other things that pissed me off, like Mandriva's own
'nedit' not running spitting out something about X-server requests.

So, I told myself "enough is enough" and switched to SUSE 10.2.
