Dead sound after new install

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

I decided to reinstall my OS yesterday ( a long story, but it wasn't due
to hardware, so I don't think that "it is fired" is the reason).

All seems to be working, except audio.

I have maudio audiophile 2496 card, Mandriva 2007, alsa 1.0.12.

In /etc I have the following files:

root$ cat modprobe.conf
alias eth0 via-rhine
install scsi_hostadapter /sbin/modprobe usb-storage; /bin/true

root$ cat modprobe.d/sound
alias snd-card-0 snd-ice1712
alias sound-slot-0 snd-ice1712

When the /etc/init.d/alsa script runs to startup I get

root$ /etc/init.d/alsa restart
Doing alsactl to store mixer settings... [ OK ]
Shutting down ALSA sound driver (version 1.0.12): [ OK ]
Starting ALSA version 1.0.12: ice1712 ice1712. [ OK ]

So, far so good?

But, no audio.

For example:

root$ alsamixer
No mixer elems found

Okay ... what about /proc/asound?

root$ cat /proc/asound/cards
  0 [Interface ]: USB-Audio - USB Uno MIDI Interface
M-Audio USB Uno MIDI Interface at
usb-0000:00:10.1-1, full speed

Only my usb midi interface was found.

But, the sound modules appear to be in memory:

root$ lsmod | grep snd

snd_usb_lib 15072 1 snd_usb_audio

So, it appears that we have the right modules, but the card isn't
showing up in /proc/asound. The card is found by the hardware: alsaconf
works and finds the onboard (disabled) audio and the 2496 card. Things
appear to load? I'm at a complete loss as to what to do next. I'm
guessing that some init file is buggered? Or maybe the card died?

Thanks.
