Did you try "speaker-test --channels 6 --device plug:surround51"?

Ok. Let me try to explain better.
First i tried mplayer -channels 6 [dvd input ac3 5.1] and i only got sound on left and right channels.
So , i tried
# speaker-test -Dplug:surround51 -c6
and again sound only on left and right channels.
I set all controls in alsamixer to maximum and still no sound in the other channels.
So i found that tip about enabling :
Mic As Center/LFE and Line-In As Surround
but there is no such controls in alsa mixer :/
