I'm sorry that my driver dev / architecture skills are a bit out of date, but I've found the following info on MSI: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Message_Signaled_Interrupts http://lwn.net/Articles/44139/ It sounds like this is a new spec for handling interrupts that uses shared memory. Presumably this should improve performance and should improve flexibility in dealing with systems with a wider variety of devices. It should also allow hardware manufacturers to decrease pin count.
