...no. i am running kernel 2.6.17-2-k7. /etc/modules.conf has 
disappeared completely. /etc/modutils gives the opportunity to modify 
modules like hda-intel. yes, i remember /etc/modules.conf very well from 
woody and potato. so it seems the modprobe program has been completely 
rewritten. i'll ask the people of the debian_user_list if 
/etc/modules.conf is replaced by /etc/modutils.
