Switching devices during playback

Hi,

I'm wondering if anyone has an answer to FAQ040 from the
alsa.opensrc.org wiki (which has no answer):

How can I create a virtual device that can switch between one of
several different soundcards during playback (without interruption)?

I've done some searching for a solution and haven't been able to come
up with anything.

Actually what I want to do is slightly different than this. I want to
be able to switch during playback from using my audio hw to using a
PCM plugin, namely the a2dp plugin for playing high-quality Bluetooth
audio. Is there any way to do this?

If there's not currently a way to do this, would it be possible to
create a PCM plugin to do it? I'm willing to work on the plugin if it
can be done, and if someone can give me a little guidance on how to go
about the implementation.

Thanks,
Seth
