I don't seem to have any ldap binaries in /usr/bin. Which ones are you
referring to?

> $ export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=/opt/fedora-ds/shared/lib:$LD_LIBRARY_PATH

Using LD_LIBRARY_PATH is supposed to be "A Bad Thing". Why not
# ldconfig /opt/fedora-ds/shared/lib
