TTBOMK, *nothing* other than parted presently knows how to create and modify GPT partition tables. Except, apparently, for a program with the *singularly* poorly chosen name of "GPT Fdisk": http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/ I know, that sounds like a *really good* name.
