Sir/Madam,
I am using Red Hat Linux 9.
I was just running cc application in terminal.
After sometime, the operating system started to slow down gradually and after sometime, it became very slow and slowly i restarted the system. Even for restarting , it took around 20 minutes.
Then, when I again booted, first i got some new information in the boot screen that 0.5% non-contiguous.(somevalue/somevalue)
The OS continued to boot and came to the screen Red Hat linux login
Usually the next screen would be the GUI with username.
But the OS got struck at this situation and it was reverting back and forth between the login screen and blank black screen. No GUI was visible
To come out of this situation, I was repeatedly pressing Ctrl + D or C and finally i got a message, "I am stopping X currently" something like that.
Then
i was
able to work with the terminal.
When, I manually tried to start X using
$startx
I got some error message like this:
Could not init font path element unix/: 7100 removing form list!
Fatal server error:
could not open default font 'fixed'
"/var/log/Xfree86.0.log"
x10: fatal 10 error 104(connection reset by peer1 on X server ":00"
after 0 requests(0 known processed 1 with 0 events remaining)
Since, the log file was also requested, I am attaching the log file also.
What is this problem? Why does it happen? Will this problem continue after correcting this problem? Are there any chances of this problem arriving again even after re-installing Linux?
and now
What is the solution?
Please help me.
Karthik Srinivas.
