You need two device sections (for the same device), not just one as you have
it.

Marc, Thank you for the advice.  I did as you suggest but don't see
any difference after X starts up.  I can press cntl-f8 to make either
screen active but can't extend the desktop to both screens, and can't
take advantage of the greater resolution of the second screen.  I've
enclosed the config and log files - can you take a peek and see if
anything jumps out at you.

I'm not sure why you commented out the BusID's.
