For my old computer, I have a Linux dual boot, and I can choose between : 1 - Suse 7.0 ( kernel 2.2.16, libc 6.1.3 and XFree 4.0.2 ) 2 - Slackware 9.1 ( kernel 2.4.22, glibc 2.3.2, XFree 4.3.0 )
The PC hardware contains : - Intel Pentium 133 Mhz - Ram 64 MBytes - Graphics card : Viewtop PCI ( Tseng ET4000W32, 2 MBytes Video Ram ).
I had manually configured the XF86Config file ( see attached files ) ; for each OS, I have a copy of the same file in the directory : /etc/X11/
When I'm under Suse7.0, I can start the X server ( startx ) ( see Suse_XFree86.0.log ); but with Slackware9.1 the startx command fail with :
Fatal server error
out of memory
XIO : fatal IO error 104 ( connection reset by peer ) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests ( 0 known processed ) with 0 events remaining.
( see Slackware_XFree86.0.log )
3 attached files : - XF86Config - Suse_XFree86.0.log - Slackware_XFree86.0.log
Can you tell me where is the bad configuration and how I can run the X server under Slackware.
The latest fix for this problem is in XFree86 4.5.0.
