Sorry about the earlier bad post. I set the RandR extension to false as suggested. The screen does rotate. It's just that now X will crash. I log in as a non-privileged user and move the cursor to the right edge or the bottom edge of the screen and X will crash and be restarted by gdm, which presents me with the login screen again.
