Using a joystick with XFree86 4.3.0.1 under Linux?

Hi all.

I recently bought myself a nice little USB gamepad. I'm very pleased with it as all the important features work flawlessly under Linux in things like zsnes. So, I know the kernel level stuff is all funky dory. I would like, however, to be able to use my gamepad as a pointing device under X. I have done a little research with the help of my good friend Google and it would appear that version 3.x of XFree supported this (using xf86Jstk.so or something) but it would appear that this is no longer a valid approach.

Has anyone had any success in using a joystick/gamepad under X version 4.3 on Linux?

Cheers.

Grant.
