I don't know for sure what is causing this. I have seen others with similar problems. Make sure your Font Path is setup right. Example might be adding a 'Font Path' to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/misc/fonts.alias ' (make sure this is the right path for you) in your X-config file.
