Install problems on ppc with gcc-3.4.1 & LFS

Trying to make install XFree86-4.4.0 on a G3 ppc with gcc-3.4.1 and 
linux-2.6.8.1 (actually linux from scratch 6.0 and beyond linux from 
scratch 5.1) I ran into the same problem earlier described by axel 
azerty. I do not understand how to solve it completely. The earlier 
suggestion by somebody to not build scalable fonts works.

Does anybody now how to do this.
