Hi,

I recently bought the new alu 23" Apple HD Cinema Display. It supports a
lot of modes (1920x1200 1680x1050 1280x960 1280x1024 1024x768 800x600
640x480) but i can get it to work only with the 'vesa' driver at
1024x768.

I tried calculating the modelines using the info in the modeline HOWTO,
but this doesn't help: it seems the modelines are ignored somehow.
Another problem is that Apple doesn't provide the hsync and vrefresh
rates, so I used the (fixed) ones provided by the vesa ddc probings:

(II) VESA(0): Apple Cinema Display: Using hsync value of 123.26 kHz
(II) VESA(0): Apple Cinema Display: Using vrefresh value of 60.00 Hz

When using the radeon or proprietary fglrx drivers, nothing is displayed
although the logs doesn't show any errors.

When using these drivers I can change back to text consoles but the
display stays black until a complete reboot. With the vesa driver I can
switch between graphic and text-consoles without problems.

There's another strange thing: the display indicates the follwing (with
all drivers):
(II) VESA(0): Supported Future Video Modes:
(II) VESA(0): #0: hsize: 1920 vsize 1920 refresh: 60 vid: 209

I'm pretty sure this should be 1920x1200?

Attached are the logs when using the vesa and radeon drivers and the
radeon drivers using the fixed rates as indicated by the vesa ddc
probings.
... HUGE chop ...

Would it be too much to ask if you sent your XF86Config file? Somehow it looks like 1024x768 mode is automatically turned on. I have a Dell laptop, and the screen size is 1280x800, and Linux supports it by default. Maybe if I saw your XF86Config I could find out what your problem is ;-)! I know, I am in the evil Msft Windows, but not for long... 8-(
