i830 Can't read V_BIOS

Hi, am using kernel 2.4.26, XFree86 4.3.0-r6 on a Dell Dimension 2400.

I am trying to configure a dual screen system, the screen 0 is an nVidia and 
it is ok. The second screen is the i830, but I can't make  it run, i get the 
following error:

(EE) I810(1): Cannot read V_BIOS
(EE) I810(1): VBE initialization failed.

I wonder if it is an error in the i830 driver or if my BIOS is messed up. I 
haver recently upgraded the BIOS to Revision 0.5, so I think that is not the 
problem.

Any help? I have searched all the archives, but I couldn't find any solution.
