No, not that I’m aware of…where to check to be 100% sure?

Is NFS involved at all? Normally when I see an I/O error like that, NFS is involved.

Subject: Cannot open log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log"

Strange problem...Googled a lot, but found nothing useful. When I try to start startx, it fails with the message:

Fatal Server Error:

Cannot open log file "/var/log/XFree86.0.log"

When reporting a problem related to a server crash, please send the full server output, not just the last messages.

Please report problems to xfree86 at xfree86.org.

giving up.

xinit:  Connection refused (errno 111):  unable to connect to X server

xinit:  No such process (errno 3):  server error.

Strange part is that yesterday, all was working fine when I tried at a friend's place.

When I look into /var/log, I cannot see the XFree86.0.log file, however I assume it must be there since when I type half of the filename and then press tab, it completes the filename. However, it does not show up with "ls -al" (all this as root).

When try to make manually the XFree86.0.log file, the shell returns:

linux:/var/log # touch XFree86.0.log

touch: cannot touch 'XFree86.0.log': Input/Output error linux:/var/log #

Any ideas or suggestions on what is wrong here?

WiWa
