sir/madam,

I am using Red hat Linux 8.0.
I am having display problem in Linux system.
I tried to change the resolution of my monitor
        previously it was 640 x 480
    I changed to 1024 x 860

It asked to restart the system.
    so i restarted the system.
    But nothing is comming.
my monitor is LG studioworks 440si
    I am using VGA card
    i am using XFree86 4.2.0-72 xserver

I entered into the text mode safely
with out any problem from text mode
i tried to start xwindows by using
      the "startx" command.
But it showed the following error and
      asked to contact you.

    system message is as follows:
    Fatal Server error.
server is already active for display 0.
if this server is no longer running,
        remove /tmp/.X0-lock and start again.

xlib:connection to ":0.0" refused by server
    xlib:Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key(ID-1)
    giving up
    xinit:unable to connect xserver.
xinit:No such process (errno 3): server error.

so i removed the "/tmp/.X0-lock" and
started but it showed following error

XSERVTransSocketINETCreate Listener: ... Socket CreateListener() failed
    XSERVTransMakeAll CoTSServerListeners:server already running

    Fatal server error
      cannot establish any listening sockets
-make sure an xserver is not already running

xlib:connection to ":0.0" refused by server
    xlib:Invalid MIT-MAGIC-COOKIE-1 key(ID-1)
    giving up
    xinit:unable to connect xserver.
xinit:No such process (errno 3): server error.

kindly solve my problem

How to restore my old monitgor settings
