I have a few questions for you.

Have you configured XFree86 yet?
http://xfree86.linuxwiki.org/FAQMiscellaneous#head-91ac81654e284e4b03ba61cff83886b90fdf6570

If you have, where did you put the XF86Config file?
It is often placed here, "/etc/X11/XF86Config" and it sometimes has a different name, XF86Config-4.

Finally, do you have the permissions set correctly on both the file itself and the directory?
You will need to be able to have read permissions. Permissions are set using the chmod command. See the man page for syntax.
