I have a trouble that cannot start up the X window system in the environment of the RedHat 7.2 Linux; i.e. the system abnormally stop to enter 'startx.' The system prompts again.
I found your message saying "Please report problems to xfree86@xxxxxxxxxxx," then I am reporting to you.
Formerly, the system worked well, but, suddenly it could not show the X Window system.
The harddisk consists of the Windows2000, TurboLinux and RedHat Linux, launched by the System commander7 through the master boot record.
It seems to be strange that others like Windows2000 and Turbo linux have worked well in any processes. The Redhat 7.2 Linux doesn't work in X Window.
Since a few months recently, I have tried to recover the system to update at all, to exchang the Matrox graphics card, to rewrite the XF86Config file, and so on. These, however, didn't work.
The attached are the part of the XF86Config file and the X window start up log as a whole that you suggested to send. According to follows, X Window does apparently not work now.
The questions are following. You kind response will deeply be appreciated.
1. What is the "/usr/X11R6/lib/modules/libvgahw.a ?" We could not read the content through text editor.
2. How do I modify the XF86Config for the Screen section to recover from the following message
"(EE) MGA(0): No Display subsection in Screen section "Screen0" for depth/fbbpp 8/8"
3. Only ROOT can see and access the /tmp region. Why this happens?
I look forward to obtaining your kind suggestion.
Thank you for your coopeation.
Kind regards,
R. Kouda Geological Survey of Japan roy.kouda@xxxxxxxxxx
