The problem was two large files (logs from
a backup) in the root directory apparently taking up all of the space in that
directory. After I removed them it initialized just fine. (Thanks
to Yufei Yuan and the Linux Gazette)
Thanks for your suggestions also!!

Subject: Re: X Server
Startup
Did you check if xfs is running? Login in as
root user and do the following:
ps -ef | grep xfs
ps -ef | grep X
if either xfs or X are running kill them and at the command type the following
xfs
startx
Hopefully this will let you know if, at least you can start X manually.
However it
fails to tell you why it failed at boot time. Probably the
/var/lo/messages could
be a better log to determine if xfs failed to start at boot time and why.
Have you
installed any new library or app lately?
I have a system which is unable to start X at boot time. What is the
reason? Well,
last week I decided to install GIMP 2.0 which requires GTK+-2.4.0, and X seems
to be very unhappy with the case. Since I am the only user of this system
(my
development workstation) I am unwilling to waist more time to try and fix it.

Good Morning:
Yesterday I restarted my Dell PowerEdge 6600 running Red Hat
8.0 and I received a message saying it was unable to start the X Server.
I am NOT a power Linux user and as such need LOTS of help when these problems
crop up. The final error message I get is: Could not init font path
element unix/:7100 removing from list.
I am attaching the log and the config file.
I would appreciate all the help I can get, and thanks in
advance!
