No EuroSign and at with Xfree 4.4.0 and gnome 2.4.1-2

Hi,

as of today I did update my Xfree86 4.3.99.901 to Xfree86 4.4.0-1
without any troubel at first sight but a second look shows me two
errors that only maybe due to false configuration.

First Error is that after the update I cannot use the EuroSing and
the at Symbol any longer with my german keyboard. With the RC1 this
still worked but not with the final Release. I think I read
something about this and changes because of UTF-8 somewher but
cannot rember if this effected Mac OS X or not. I wanted to help
myself out with an .Xmodmap but this fails too. So is there any
chance to get back my EuroSign and at with Xfree86 4.4.0-1,
bundle-gnome 2.4.1-2.

I tried it with Abiword, Mac OS X, gnumeric, gedit and so on. None
of these apps allowes me to type and @ or €.
It is equal if I use the autcommanded version to get the german
desktop or the currently active one.

Mac is a Power Mac G4 Dual 1.42Ghz with Mac OS X 10.3.2 and fink
Package manager version: 0.19.1
Distribution version: 0.6.2.cvs, bundle-gnome 2.4.1-2 and
Xfree864.4.0-1 as of today morning.

I tried to find a Xfree86 Config or log file but found nothing
under Mac OS X except the following in the genera log file:

XDarwin 1.3.0
-bash: no job control in this shell

I think it's an error or misconfiguration here from me with UTF-8

I also get the following message when launching OpenOffice.org
1.1.1RC
I18N: Operating system doesn't support locale ""

Any idea how to get a german desktop enviroment and the Umlaute
back?

Regards,
Eric Hoch
