What occured to me though, was that xf86cfg wants to write the file to /usr/X11R6/lib/XF86Config. It fails to write to locations in other directories if i supply another one. So, i used xf86cfg to get create the /usr/X11R6/lib/XF86Config. When i restarted X, it seemed like the changes were not having any effect. So, i copied /usr/X11R6/lib/XF86Config to /etc/X11/XF86Config-4, which atleast gave me a working X. The only problem now is that i can only get a 1920x1440 mode, which is too high.
