I recently built x4.3 to work with my Radeon7500. No problems there. You might want to check "man radeon" to see options you may need in your XF86Config. Also try uncommenting the "mode 0666" in "Section DRI" and "load dri" of XF86Config.
Regards ----------- I'm using latest X from CVS. To get DRI working I've to write in my XF86Config-4: VideoRam 32768 only then X loads the radeon module.
But when using DRI with the radeon module from XFCVS or with the radeon module from kernel 2.6 my Screen get scrambled like this: http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~sawei/broken_X.jpg
