try the proprietary driver distributed from nVidia itself: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-5328
There you can download an installer script packaged with the files needed to install and eventually compile the driver with the kernel interface.
You should have the sources of your running kernel configured in /usr/src/linux, else the installer would not compile the right kernel-interface if no delivered interface is matching your kernel.
