   To me it looks like the monitor only marginally supports
the frequencies that it says it does.  

   In your /etc/X11/XF86Config file, in the Section "Monitor".
Try adding the lines:

        HorizSync  30 - 60
        VertRefresh 50 - 75

  If that doesn't work.  Try something more conservative like:

        HorizSync  30 - 55
        VertRefresh 50 - 72
