Sometimes, it seems, that the updates to the software sometimes leave
the older stuff behind.  Mine may be a bit older than yours.  Can't
remember offhand what the capabilities of my card are. The monitor is
supposedly capable of 1280x1024, but IIRC the card I have may only
support 1024x768 as a max.

I grabbed them.  Thanks.  I'll look them over and perhaps try your
XF86Config.

Some distros store a config file for the kernel in /boot.  If you have
this, grep CONFIG_FB /boot/<configfile>, in this case, should show
whether it's compiled in or not.
