320x240 resolution with the i810 chip

Hi,

we are attempting to use a i810 graphics chip with a 320x240 LCD display.
X11 works fine when we connect a monitor, but we only get a "white" display on the LCD.

According to the XFree86 log file the clock range is:
   XFree86 Version 4.3.0
   Release Date: 27 February 2003
   X Protocol Version 11, Revision 0, Release 6.6
Build Operating System: SuSE Linux [ELF] SuSE
   Build Date: 17 March 2003
   ....
"(II) I810(0): Clock range: 12.00 to 163.00 MHz"

In fact, startx fails when we specify a clock rate smaller than 12 MHz.
The point seems to be that the LCD requires a clock rate between 3 and 6.8 MHz.

Has anyone experienced similiar problems?
Where does the (lower) limit for the clock rate come from?
Is it a true limit, are there any workarounds?

Thanks for any help or hints or information.

Richard
