[XFree86] setup woes

Hi there,

I'm totally new to xfree86 and could do with some advice. I'm basically trying
to set up a few macs running OS X v10.1.5 so that they can log into and have
full graphical use of a linux machine.
I've downloaded xfree86 v4.2.0 using XInstall and I can see the files in
/etc/X11 but I'm still having troubles getting a graphical interface. I can log
into the linux machine using ssh but when I try and launch the desktop to my mac
it says that it can't launch. I am doing this from the usual terminal, should I
be using a different terminal (Xterm??), if so where do I find this/ how do I
start it?

Any advice would be great,
thanks
Iain
