Dear Chrissy, sorry for late answer. please send /var/log/XFree86.0.log and version-no. of xfree86 (Woody should provide 4.1.0, I suppose). http://www.xfree86.org/current/Status18.html#18 says that Millenium II is only supported by 3.3.6 and 4.3.0, but http://www.xfree86.org/4.1.0/mga.4.html lists MGA2164W Millennium II as well (don´t understand that). Anyway, 3.3.6 should be on your debian cd-rom. So check out typing at the command line: apt-get install xserver-mga (or mga2164w) or dpkg-reconfigure xserver-mga If that doesn´t work, try Vesa. But Vesa is a generic driver. You probably can only use 256 colors, 800x600 resolution etc. For further details please look at http://osr5doc.ca.caldera.com:457/VidConfigG/XvidD.svga_vesa.html Good luck and regards Gebhard Dettmar p.s. please send messages as plain text. I use 'MIME encoded' as spam filter phrase. Dear All, I have installed Debian GNU/Linux AKA Woody 3.0. It is working good with the command screen. Now having gotten all the specifications for the video card and the monitor the system still tries to start the GUI desktop but constantly fails. HELP Please. Matrox Millenium II 4 MB Video Card Gateway 2000 Vivitron 17" monitor. I don't have the specs on hand at this very moment. In with my sleeping roommate. With the information I have, I have been told that it should work. Hmmm! I am stuck for an answer. Hope that all of your days are good ones, Chrissy Strawn --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
