[XFree86] Switching virtual Terminals under Linux

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

Hi

I'm running a SuSE-8.0 distribution, this means 2.4.18 Kernel and XFree 4.2.0.
I have succeeded in running 4 Xserver from boot (3 started from xdm on vt07:0
[this has DRI-support on 16bpp], vt08:1[this has Overlay on 24bpp], vt09:2[this
has none of DRI or Overlay on 32bpp]) and one script from init for a fourth
 Xserver starting xawtv on vt12:4 needing 16bpp) --- with a Matrox G400 16MB SH
 AGP graphic card.
[Would be nice if you can use DRI and Overlay feature in one XServer without
hang --- a wish for XFree86.5.* --- or running Overlay on :0 and DRI on :1 ?]
It seems rather random which VT really takes the physical console --- it seems
they are fighting for it :-).
So I like to know how do a job (init or whatever priviliged script it needs)
choose one specific vt?? for the physical console.

BTW: A Matrox G450 16MB DH (DVI&analog) can't init DRI and I get the error
message from the dri-modul: needs at least 22500 kB Memory for this resolution
[1280x1024 with 16bpp] :(
I think a Matrox-driver issue, in't it? [Can anybody confirm this observation?]

Thanks in Advance
