Your AGP module 'agpgart' is not loaded.  This could be your problem as
the error output was saying that the agp port could not be found
(accessed, or whatever).  

is agpgart support built into the kernel?  If so try recompiling with it
as a module.  Make sure the agpgart module loads before the fglrx
module.

Your geForce 1 may have worked fine in a PCI mode without the agpgart
module, but the 9700 will need it.
