RE: Radeon 7500 not in list of cards

[Date Prev][Date Next][Thread Prev][Thread Next][Date Index][Thread Index]

If I had a nickel for every time I have asked this very question over the
past year and a half...
I have the Radeon 7200 PCI 32mb card. And it is listed in the "Supported
Cards" list. However it is not supported, and nobody can seem to tell me
why it isn't supported. I thought If I read this newsletter long enough
that someone would have the same problem. Well nobody has had the exact
problem, but plenty of people have been having trouble with ATI cards in
general. My suggestion is, get rid of the ATI card. Don't get me wrong I
love ATI cards in Windoze, but I have had nothing but trouble with them in
Linux. I mean, just read the amount of posts about ATI cards in this
newsletter, there are usually two or three in every issue. Maybe we should
all write to ATI, XFree, and the DRI to see if we can get some better
support for ATI products under Linux.

Off subject:
I have 3D acceleration working in Linux via Voodoo3. It however is not
supported in UnrealTournament2003, which by the way comes with a Linux
installer on the Windoze disk. Just make sure that you go out and by it,
rather than downloading it from some hacker site. After you install it and
play it a while, please write to Epic Games and thank them for thinking
about us poor Linux gamers.

Don't use XFree86-3.x.x it does not support the full DRI options available
for fully supported cards such as the Radeon 7500. Ask someone on this
list with a Radeon7500 to post their XF86Config, copy it and then check
the /var/log/XFree86.0.log to see if there are any errors. Possibly you
need to update Xconfigurator also? What distro are you using?
(Xconfigurator is a RH specific tool AFAIK and in their latest distro
release, 8.0, they've dropped it in favour of redhat-config-xfree86).

Hi,

I was able to read a Telugu news paper on Windows NT, using Netscape
4.7, enabling
*"Use document specified fonts, including Dynamic fonts"
*
Running Redhat 8.0
Using Mozilla I was trying to read it http://www.eenadu.net. I
downloaded their
eenadu.ttf and installed on my machine and I could only read some of
their pages
not completely. Sometimes a couple of reloads would help.

I copied all C:\winnt\Fonts\*.ttf (all lower case ttf) and eenadu.ttf to
the
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/TTF and ttmkfdir > fonts.dir, restarted xfs and X.
I check the fontpath, TTF is in the path.

Why am I failing to view it completely. Is there anything else that
needs to be done ?
OR do you think there may be some issues with dynamic fonts ?

Thanks
/Murali

Those web pages aren't using Unicode, but rather some weird custom
encoding. The font they use shares the same bizarre encoding. This
appears to make things fail in mysterious ways. I can get the main page
to display correctly by reloading it, but subsequent pages never appear in
the right font.

I checked the fontconfig debug output and that library seems to be
operating correctly, it looks like the bug is in Mozilla here.

 Surely you can use the 4.2.x series. I have a Radeon 7000 PCI 64mb DDR
card,
and sure it doesnt have the dual head or whatever extra goodies, but it
works
fine, with custom module because it's PCI.

If I'm not mistaken, Xconfigurator writes a 3 series config file, and
xf86cfg
or xf86config writes the 4 series for RedHat. XFdrake for Mandrake will
write
either or, you get the option to specify, although it defaults to 4 now.
Debian does it way different, remail me if your using that and I'll try to
walk you through it. But the best thing about XFree86 is that under just
about any distro you can use XFree86 -configure followed by XFree86
- -xf86config /root/XF86Config.new to test the config, and just tweak the
minor
details by hand:)

Good call; fixing the encoding forced Mozilla to stop reencoding the data
on the page.

Have you tried to re-install the latest Developer´s tools. It´s
providing a lot of essential basic functions that you may have
wiped-out accidentally.

By the way, have you taken a look at the fink website, they can provide
more mac-specific answers for X11...

And try starting with the Terminal instead of XDarwin : typing startx
-- -quartz
It will launch XDarwin but also give you informations on the causes of
the failure in the terminal window.
Just after the start, you can turn back to OS-X pushing apple-alt-a...

good luck

Subject: Various color troubles
Reply-To: newbie@XFree86.Org

Hello ,

I try to explain my problem.

I have a graphic application running fine on HP-UX, and displaying OK on HP
workstation. I try to have it display (correctly ! ) on my notebook.

The notebook : HP VT 6200 , 15" , 1400x1050 resolution, Windows XP Pro.

I installed Cygwin version 1.3.13-2 including XFree 86   4.2.15
For the packages I have set "install" to "all"
(Nevertheless I got to tar x "less" files ...)
twm is the only window manager installed. So I use it.

The application (staticcaly linked with X11R5 lib) requires 2 colormaps...
and use XtConvertAndStore for various colors. So I need PseudoColor mode, I
use :
	startx -- -emulatepseudo

If I only do that it is the 3rd Visual which is in PseudoColor, and I don't
know how to use it ? Is there a bug or a "good" way to use it ?
So I have used
	startx -- -emulatepseudo -depth 8 -fullscreen
(I am not sure that "depth 8 " helps)

I set my fontpath and so on, and rlogin Hp-Ux-Workstation
I start the application.
It is mostly OK but XtConvertAndStore does not always succeed :
OK for from_value.addr =
*	"#94949494949494"
*	"#dededededede"
*	"#adadadadadad"
*	"#424242424242"
*	"#bdbdbdbdbdbd"
*	"#212121212121"
*	"#ffffffff0000"
*	"#c2c2c2c2c2c2"
*	"#4fff4fff4fff"
And fails for
*	"#737373737373"
*	"#636363636363"
*	"#280028002800"
Do you have any idea of what can be the reason ?

The application opens windows, with drawings... Some are iconised (and used
not to be), and when I resize it, it is not drawn (I have to ask for it
through an application fonctionality) ! I guess that twm is (partially)
responsible for that ? Any suggest whould be welcome !

The other problem is for the drawings requiring the second colormap, of
course.. Is there a way to have it ?

By now, I have only tried Cygwin, but I expect to install Mandrake 9 soon.
May be Xf86config will help ?

As you see, I have many questions ! I hope that it can be solved easyly
enough. (And that my english can be understood)

Thanks
Christian

Hi,

True, you do not have a driver for i845. The
support for this graphics card is in the cvs tree,
which you can download and compile. I did it
myself and it works with minor problems.

check this out:
http://www.xfree86.org/~dawes/845driver.html

good luck

Subject: Change X standard background when X starts?
Reply-To: newbie@XFree86.Org

Hi,

I'am looking for a way to change the standard background of X (black and
white little stripes) which is shown at the very beginning *before* I
can change it with xsetroot -solid black. There is always a period of
time in which I see these background which also causes flicker on my
LCD.
Is there a way to change it right at the starting of X? Would be great!
Thank You
 Felix

(I hope I didn't send this posting twice - do I get a receipt/copy of
my posting in any case?)

Subject: Error compiling XFree86 4.2.0
Reply-To: newbie@XFree86.Org

Hi everyone,

and thanks in advance, this is my problem when using XFree86 4.2.0. I'm
trying to build XFree86 4.2.0 on the following system:
1.- Intel i686
2.- Sis 630
3.- Linux 2.4.18
4.- Samsung TFT

It works OK when compiling and installing, and I'm quite sure that I'm
configuring OK both the graphic card and the TFT... but, when I type startx,
the screen goes blank, and system doesn't respond anymore...

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance and best regards,

Miguel Ángel Ripalda Marín
