You may get the same result without going back to 6.2 by forcing the install program to select X 3.3.6 (I believe there is a preferx3 or something like that in the conf parms) This is what I did for an antique laptop with RH 7.2, it runs nice and accelerated with X 3.3.6 and hideously slow with 4.1 and vesa... You could have a look in /usr/X11R6/bin to see whether there are a few XF86_whatever (these being the 3.3.6 servers) if there is one you recognise as you old friend (often XF86_SVGA possibly XF86_S3) Then it suffices to change /etc/X11/X from a symlink to /usr/X11R6/bin/XFree86 (the X 4.x.x server) to /usr/X11R6/bin/XF86_whatever and to ask Xconfigurator to generate the apropriate XF86Config Lionel --- Diego Cardinali <scroto@interfree.it> wrote: > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Lionel Lecoq <lionel_lecoq@yahoo.com> > To: <newbie@XFree86.Org> > Sent: Friday, October 25, 2002 4:57 PM > Subject: Re: R: R: R: RedHat 7.3, S3 Trio64V+ and Sampo Alphascan > 411: monitor turns off if I try 24 bit mode > > > > I use depth 24 (theoretically identical to 32...) you could try that, but > I am puzzled by your > > first error message: Symbol xf86InterpretEDID etc. > > possibly someone else may help there... > > Lionel > > If I try 24 bit (when I say 24 bit mode I mean 32 bit mode, and when I say > 32 bit mode I mean 24 bit mode...) with Xconfigurator my monitor turns off, > with both (800x600 and 640x480) the resolutions available... thank you > again, I'm thinking about returning at my old RedHat 6.2, this 7.3 is also > too slow for my Pentium MMX 266 Mhz with a 2 megs video card... > > > _______________________________________________ > > Newbie@XFree86.Org > *** To unsubscribe , or change message options, see: > http://XFree86.Org/mailman/listinfo/newbie __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!?
