Thanks for a quick & positive answer!

This is an old card I expected no problems in the latest
slackware release.

I'll try the option and upgrade XFree86 when I get time.
It doesn't look a big download though...

Now that's misleading, as you say, it isn't only a security fix,
it has other important bugs fixed also. I should have read the
release notes. Reading the "Errata" it says the security bug
isn't fixed...! Perhaps best to wait for a new binary release then.

I'll RTFM to find out where NoCompositeSync goes -
with the modelines?
