i830 Success!

For the record, and for anyone who is struggling with
this chipset, I have i830MG working nicely on a Vaio
R600HMPD. All that was required is:

1) Compile a (vanilla) 2.4.19 kernel. Install.
2) Download and compile the XFree86 CVS trunk.
Install.

I then had the problem that the XServer could not find
libfontconfig.so.1. I've solved that by copying all of
the modules from the exports directory into
/usr/X11R6/lib. Could anyone confirm if that was wise?

Similarly, for DRI support: I've compiled the i830 DRI
driver in the XFree86 source tree. I'm slightly
confused as to whether this is an addition to the
kernel or a part of XFree86 (I'm sure that I'm seeing
this in simplistic terms - please enlighten me).
Anyway, my feeling is that an appropriate place to put
the installed driver would be /lib/modules/2.4.19/...
with the i810 driver, but perhaps I have misunderstood
what it is.
