I've forgotten already details from 3.3.6 Version, but some card should
support DVI.
Pls take a look at Matrox Website (Linux Forum), if i remember well
Driver Version < 1.0 are supporting G400 Chipset for 3.3.6.

Real success for DVI starts with 4.01, some cards are in need of closed
source Driver to enable DVI.
A good solution would be NVidia GF4 based cards, using driver from
NVidia, they are supporting DVI up to 1600x1200,
which currently working in front of me running  XFreee Version 4.1.
You should update X, if it`s making live easierer in case of DVI.
